Interior Advice from Woonboulevard Poortvliet: A 1930s Home With a Modern Touch

Furnishing a home with a rich history brings unique challenges. How do you maintain its authentic charm while incorporating comfort and modern styles? In this success story, interior consultant Lonneke Faassen guides us through her creative process as she transforms a 1930s home with a new dining and living area that perfectly suits the house’s character.

When this couple visited our store, their request was clear: they wanted a new dining area and living room that would complement the unique charm of their 1930s home. They explained that the layout of their house, with its separate rooms, made furnishing more challenging. Although they had sufficient storage space with built-in cabinets, they sought furniture that was both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

I began by discussing their preferences and the atmosphere they wanted to maintain in their home. Their love for vintage elements inspired me to design a layout that blends this style with modern conveniences.

The Advice

I proposed a dining and living area featuring furniture with rounded shapes to create a softer and more inviting look. For the sofa, I selected a model similar to the Morenzi by Bouwman Potter, a new design soon to be available. For the chairs, I chose the Bree’s New World Armchair Kiq which perfectly reflects the vintage style. The table is the Eettafel Nemaro, met een ronde vorm die de ruimte harmonieus aanvult.

To complete the design, I suggested adding various colors and a striking wallpaper, giving each room a unique yet cohesive appearance. This approach preserved the charm of their 1930s home while introducing a fresh, modern twist.

"We are very happy with the advice and design. It gives us a clear idea of what we want and how everything will fit. We’ll definitely return to make our final decisions."

The Result

The couple was incredibly enthusiastic about the design. They particularly appreciated how the design software provided them with a visual and spatial understanding of the furniture in their home. This gave them confidence that the sofa and table with rounded shapes would fit perfectly and showed how much space they would have left.

This project was a fantastic opportunity to use my creativity and experience to design an interior that perfectly fits the customer’s needs. It’s always rewarding to see how a well-thought-out design delivers both aesthetic and practical satisfaction.
